As you can see from the photos on this page, the Nursery Garden Project came to fruition in October this year, with the opening ceremony being held on 20 October, 2011.
The original plans for the garden refurbishment were very ambitious but despite being turned down for Lottery Funding, the Parent Reps and Committee decided that it was too great an opportunity to miss to make a lasting difference to the Nursery setting and decided to go for it!
The fantastic energy and drive of the Parent Reps - Janet Downer and Nikki Taylor (superbly supported by their husbands) along with the Nursery staff and other parents resulted in a fantastic sum of £17,300 being raised in various ways.
The parents of the children raised over £3,000 from holding a number of very successful events, including cake sales and the most successful event of them all, a sponsored bounce by the children. We were very fortunate to receive a number of donations from external sources, including a grant from the Proctor & Gamble Communities Fund of £1,000, £5,700 from Carberry Contracts, £3,000 from a Charitable Trust, £750 from the Long Ditton Village Trust, £1,000 from the Women's Group Frock Swap, £780 from a golf day hosted by one of the Parents and £600 donated by a Parent. The balance was made up from the allocation of the Parents Support Fund to the Garden Project and the tax recovery via gift aid. All of the funds have now been spent.
